Summer Job Tips

Corporette has two useful posts for those starting summer jobs.

(1) Building Your Wardrobe for the Summer Internship: here.
- You'll probably need only 3-5 suits to be worn whenever you know for sure you’ll be seeing a partner, executive, or other VIP that day. Keep an extra suit in your office if at all possible.
- Basic suits should be: black, navy, or gray.
- Get them drycleaned approximately every 4-5 wearings.
- Get non-suit pieces to wear as separates throughout the summer.

(2) Further Etiquette and “No Duh” Tips For Your Internship: here.
- If your company or firm invites you to a closed-door meeting of any kind — deposition, mediation, etc. — do not check your Blackberry. (Check your Blackberry when the partner does)
- Keep your shoes on in meetings.
- No gum.
- If you don't like academic endeavors, pretend that you do. Avoid saying things like: "Oh, yuck, the library? I hate reading."
- If your back (and computer screen) faces the door/hallway, special rules apply. (No thong showing, facebook, shopping websites, even Corporette should be considered, by you, off limits during the workday. (In fact, employers not only have the right to check your computer’s browsing history and so forth, but it’s also been reported that more than 70% do so. Keep this in mind while browsing the Internet this summer.)
- Don't drink too much at summer events.
