Alexander Ovechkin

The NY Times Magazine has a long profile on "Alexander Ovechkin, the Mad Russian."

I love this description of Ovechkin's appearance: "Ovechkin, who plays left wing for the Washington Capitals, is 6-foot-2, 233 pounds. He has a massive brow, high cheekbones, a nose broken so often it bends permanently to the left, wide-set eyes (one closer to his nose than the other) and a goofy, gap-toothed smile. He sometimes resembles a genial caveman."

The article is interesting, but I take issue with the description of Ovechkin as "hardly a goon." He's obviously not the enforcer-type of player, but his reckless style is becoming more and more dangerous. I wish the article touched on that more, especially since his latest victim, Chicago's Brian Campbell, is reportedly out for the rest of the season with a busted collarbone, while Ovie got a mild 2 game suspension.
